When you create a NEW Filemaker Pro database, you'll be asked to start by "Defining Fields".
FIELDS are pockets of computer storage space in which you can store different "TYPES" of data for each record in your list.
Be careful to observe the following rules:
Create MEANINGFUL names for your fields
Use APPROPRIATE TYPES that match the possible data you'll be storing in them. DATA TYPES include:
Text
Numbers
Dates
Times
Calculations
Media (graphics, sound samples)
You can RENAME a field by selecting it, changing it's name, then clicking the SAVE button
CALCULATIONS allow you to "process" information that will be stored in existing fields - for instance, to calculate the GST on a quoted price, or to calculate the "total charge"
